Aspen City Council unanimously voted in favor of Mark Hunt’s Base1 lodge proposal, which will replace the existing building occupied by Johnny McGuire’s and Domino’s Pizza at 730 E. At the same public hearing as Base 1, Aspen City council also unanimously passed the Sky Hotel redevelopment proposal, after months of a contentious land-use review that saw the developers significantly amend their proposal to remove all variances for height and square footage. The new 104 room hotel will replace the existing 90-room hotel. Demolition is expected to begin in the spring of 2016.
