Cooper Street Condos

The residence to the Cooper Street Condos was marketed as the “Aspen penthouse”, featuring a 4,638 square-foot condo perched on top of Brunello Cucinelli composed of four luxurious bedrooms, four and a half baths and even a two car garage.  More surprising than the size of a condo located in the heart of downtown is the price. Originally listed at $17.6 million in 2013, the penthouse located just one block from the Gondola sold for $13.2 Million in the beginning of 2015.  However, this building hasn’t always been a notable location of extravagance. In fact, 508 East Cooper used to be home to several favorite restaurants including Siamese Basil, Cooper Street Pier and Bad Billy’s. However, March 2011 brought forth the end of an era when the eateries closed and in came private developers.  The approval of a penthouse that is 85% over city zoning limits came following a settlement in which the commercial space could only be rented to an “affordable” restaurant.  Despite the settlement, an affordable eatery could not be located to occupy the space and eventually Cucinelli opened its doors in December 2012 on the main level following a year of redevelopment.

With doors to the penthouse situated between Cucinelli and Pitkin County Drygoods, three “levels of luxury” reveal the secret to selling a condo at $3,000 per square foot. With one level reserved exclusively as the master suite, and a rooftop that sports 360 degree million dollar views of Cooper Street mall, Ajax Mountain and the gondola. The condo in the center of town has five outdoor terraces, a fireplace, hot tub, an outdoor kitchen, an elevator and top of the line air/conditioning. Looking to ski in to the property and spend a day relaxing? No worries-the entrance hall is equipped not only with an art gallery but additionally a concealed and heated ski storage location. Better yet, come take a dip in the eight-person hot tub and enjoy the luxury Aspen has to offer.
